By 3lions @ Jan 18 2009 09:19 pm

i updated my receiver to the yamaha htr-6290 for hdmi for blu ray movies and the picture is good but when watching satelite tv it isnt as nice as the pioneer elite vsx-56txi i had

is the pioneer a better receiver than the yamaha or is there something i can do to better the picture, the pioneer had no hdmi thats why i changed it, i find the component a better picture than hdmi..is there a difference if i bought a more expensive hdmi cable

  1. The Pioneer might have a better video scaler in it, but I’m nor sure. Anybody else out there have any experience between Pioneer and Yamaha receivers?

Have you played with some of the HDMI settings on the Yamaha? My Deonon receiver has many options such as passthrough, or let it upscale 720p to 1080p, etc. Try setting your receiver on passthrough.

You could of saved yourself some money with the HDMI cable. See my post on how many cables I bought for the price of two Monster cables!
