I'm debating between the Denon 1609 or Yamaha V465. The Yamaha is about $100 more expensive so I’m sure if its worth it. Does anyone have any experiences with any of these? I’m not looking for a fancy receiver. I mostly just want surround sound. Any input would be appreciated.
Denon AVR-1609 or Yamaha RX-V465?

I don’t have any experiences with these two models, but I did notice the Denon receiver doesn’t have DTS-HD MA decoding capability, but it does have Dolby TruHD. This might not be a problem for you if your blu-ray player or HTPC decodes the surround sound.
In the end, its what is important to you. The Yamaha has 4 HDMI inputs while the Denon only has 2. However, the Denon has 7.1 surround sound and external 7.1 analog inputs while the Yamaha is limited to 5.1. Are you going to use the external inputs one day? Does your home theater have 7.1?Posted 2 years ago • permalink -

I only need 5.1. I don’t even have a blu-ray player yet, but I’m thinking the 4 HDMI inputs could be important one day if get a blu-ray player or something else that needs it one day. The Yamaha also has more power output so I think I’ll go with the Yamaha. Will let everyone know how it goes.
