There can sometimes be problems connecting HDMI devices through a receiver. This due to HDCP encryption and handshaking issues as movie studios think everyone is going to steal their movies. The handshaking problems happen on many devices including cable boxes, receivers, and a HTPC.

Without the receiver, does the TV see the HTPC video via the HDMI? I would try that first, and if it works, then it’s a Yamaha receiver issue. You would then have to contact Yamaha for support. Maybe a firmware update is needed.

If you can’t get HDMI to work, then there is always component. I’m using component with my HTPC and haven’t had any issues yet, even with my Blu-ray movies.
