You are correct in with running the HDMI out to the TV from the receiver's HDMI out. Unfortunately, the 1709 can't convert analog (component) to HDMI (digital). So you're also going to have to run component out to the TV in order to get the satellite video signal. This means you're going to have to switch video inputs on your TV along with the receiver inputs. A universal remote would make things easier.

On the receiver, you don't need to run any output for audio since the receiver takes care of the sound. All you should have to do is run optical from the satellite box to the receiver.

Hope this helps.

I believe the model # for the Denon receiver is AVR-1709. It does have HDMI inputs. Do I run everything to the receiver then just an HDMI cable from the receiver to the tv?

–HDMI—>Playstation
TV–HDMI—>receiver–component—>satellite box

If I understand this right, this will cover the video aspect. As for the audio, I would like to use the optical, but from which components to which?

What model number is your Denon receiver? Hopefully it has HDMI inputs which is what you should use to connect your PS3 to. For your satellite receiver, use HDMI or component if its available. If not, use S-video. For audio, use optical or coaxial outputs if available.

For more information on video connectors:

For cables, I would save your money and use monoprice.com . They have quality cables for cheap prices and fast delivery.
